Election history: Genga was elected in 2006, winning a special election after Rep. Melody A. Currey resigned to become mayor of East Hartford. He was cross-endorsed in 2008 by the Working Families Party.

Background: Genga has been a fixture of East Hartford politics since his election to the Town Council in 1975. He was majority leader for nine of his first 10 years on the council, was town treasurer for 12 years until 1997, then was named to the Metropolitan District Commission in 1998. He returned to the council in 2003.
