Election history: Giegler unseated Democrat Grace M. Scire in November 2002 by 16 votes. Scire had won the seat by 2 votes in a special election Jan. 29, 2002 after Republican Mark Boughton resigned to become mayor of Danbury. In 2008, Giegler was cross-endorsed by the Independent Party.
