Election history: Hoydick was elected in a special election on March 2, 2010, succeeding seven-term Republican John A. Harkins, who resigned after his election as mayor of Stratford. She was sworn in March 8.

Janice Anderson (D) 1,390 (42 percent)
Background: Hoydick is a former Board of Education member and chairwoman. She also is the former executive director of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce.
Democrats and unions tried to rally behind Anderson, but Hoydick easily won in what has been a Republican district for more than 30 years. Turnout for the special election was 23.4 percent.
Hoydick is married and the mother of three. They reside in Stratford.
