Denise Merrill, the incoming secretary of the state, announced Rep. James F. Spallone, D-Essex, today as her choice to be deputy secretary of the state.
Spallone is the co-chairman of the government administration and elections committee, the legislative panel that considers election-related legislation.
He is an attorney who was elected to the House in 2000 and re-elected five times.
