Whether by coincidence or plan, Connecticut’s senators managed to issue their congratulatory statements about UConn’s basketball championship at the same time, 11:29 p.m.

Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman:

“It’s with great pleasure that I congratulate the UCONN men’s basketball team on winning their third National Championship! Jim Calhoun has once again proven why UCONN deserves the title of “Top Dog” in men’s college basketball. I congratulate Coach Calhoun for being only one of five coaches to win three national titles, joining the ranks of greats like John Wooden and Mike Krzyzewski. And I take my hat off to the student athletes who have shown us what hard work, dedication, commitment and teamwork can achieve.”

Sen. Richard Blumenthal:

“Once again Coach Calhoun and the Huskies have defied the odds and brought another National Championship back home to Connecticut. During this year’s NCAA Tournament the UConn Huskies have been on an extraordinary ride and demonstrated the determination and hard work needed to beat back some very worthy opponents, including tonight against the Butler Bulldogs. As the team returns, I look forward to celebrating yet another great UConn victory with Huskies fans across the state.”
