Nothing like an open seat to inspire the ambitions of politicians, new and old.
Mike Williams of Southington, who has a Ph.D in economics from the London School of Economics, has a web site saying he will announce his candidacy Thursday for the Democratic nomination in the 5th Congressional District. He enters the race dropping a few names.
From his campaign bio:
“Mike advised the presidential campaign of Barack Obama on international security policy. Mike’s work for the campaign was a bit of home-coming as Mike started his interest in public policy as an intern in the office of Senator Joseph Biden. Senator Biden taught Mike that the most important responsibility of an elected official is to be close to his constituents and to work tirelessly on their behalf. It was Senator Biden who advised Mike to pursue graduate studies abroad and to bring the knowledge he gained overseas back to help advance the American national interest.”
The incumbent, Chris Murphy, is looking to step up to the Senate next year.
