There’s the Congressional Dairy Caucus. The Congressional Natural Gas Caucus. And now… the “Wellness Caucus.”
No, it’s not dedicated to lawmakers’ physical well-being.
“The whole idea is to put out ideas about employee wellness programs,” said Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., a founding member. With so much focus on how to curb health care costs, the group’s focus will be on helping businesses put in place programs that keep their workers healthy, she said.
So far, the group only has four members-Klobuchar and Sen. John Thune, a South Dakota Republican, and two members of the House. But Klobuchar said her office will be recruiting other lawmakers in the coming days.
It remains to be seen if the group makes any real impact on the tough questions that have bedeviled Washington about how to rein in spiraling health costs.
