U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy’s campaign for U.S. Senate said Wednesday night it has raised over $855,000 in the first quarter of 2012, boosting his cash on hand by about $500,000 to nearly $3 million.

He now has raised $4.24 million and has almost $3 million cash on hand.

The rest of the crowded field for the open seat has yet to share numbers. Murphy has been the fundraising leader among Democrats.
