The dig at Republican Linda McMahon over World Wrestling Entertainment was a throwaway line that literally gave Susan Bysiewicz the last word at a WNPR radio debate with Chris Murphy, her rival for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.

“I’ll be darned if I let someone who sells sex and violence and pornography for a living be our next United States senator,” she said. “We need to send the right woman to Washington.”

The McMahon campaign responded by noting that Bysiewicz was happy to work with WWE wrestlers in Smackdown Your Vote, a voter registration effort directed at the young. And, the campaign said, Bysiewicz supportedf McMahon’s appointment by Gov. M. Jodi Rell to the state Board of Education.

“It’s amazing how memories fade when you’re a professional politician,” said Erin Isaac, a McMahon spokeswoman.
