Gov. Dannel P. Malloy pushed hard today for a ban on the sale of large-capacity gun magazines and tighter national rules on the sale of guns during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” saying he was heartened by the approach he sees being taken by the Obama administration.
“I had a great conversation yesterday with Vice President Biden,” Malloy said. “I think he’s got it down pretty well.”
Biden is leading the president’s review of gun legislation in the wake of the Newtown school shootings.
Malloy said the political environment around guns has changed dramatically since the tragedy, allowing legislators to pass laws and restrictions that the governor says are “common sense.”
“It’s a world of difference since Dec. 14,” Malloy said.
At the top of Malloy’s list of restrictions is banning the 30-round magazines used by Adam Lanza in Newtown.
Malloy said there also must be “an honest debate about the glorification of violence” in video games.
His eight-minute remote appearance from Hartford began with MSNBC playing a clip from his State of the State address, when he struggled for composure when referring to the young victims and the educators who died trying to protect them.
