The legislature’s Democratic and Republican leaders now plan to meet Wednesday to discuss the parameters of a gun violence bill likely to be adopted this month in response to the mass shooting in Newtown.

Spokesmen for House Speaker J. Brendan Sharkey, D-Hamden, and House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-Norwalk, said the legislature’s top leaders tentatively are expected to meet Wednesday afternoon, while both chambers are in session.

The General Assembly is expected Wednesday to adopt legislation creating a special relief fund for the first responders traumatized by the massacre of 26 women and children at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Their worker’s compensation benefits are running out, and many have been unable to return to duty.
