The premier of Quebec made a late afternoon visit Thursday to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy at the State Capitol, part of a tour through New England.

Pauline Marois, the first woman to be the premier, was scheduled to visit Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee earlier in the day. She met with New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan on Wednesday.

Malloy and Marois each have had to preside over a response to recent horrific disasters, the mass shooting of 26 children and educators in December for Malloy, the deaths of at least 38 persons in the runaway train disaster last week for Marois.

The meeting was private, said Malloy’s spokesman, Andrew Doba.
