Sethfon Copper and Shammar Dozier, two friends living in Waterbury, pose for a portrait photo while holding bags with food in them.

Sethfon Copper, left, and Shammar Dozier were on their way home after school in Waterbury, where they were born and raised. “I was always taught from my grandmother to not be afraid of them, but to be very cautious on what you say, what you do, because some things can happen. There’s many stories about people our age getting beaten by police, and you just have to be careful nowadays, which is sad to say, but that’s the world we live in,” Dozier said. Yehyun Kim / CT Mirror
