Unless Connecticut gets its financial house in order, we will continue to be last or close to last (meaning bad), in many financial aspects such as debt, underfunded pensions and health care, gas taxes, property taxes, population growth, etc.

After just having had the largest tax increase in history, we are looking at huge deficits  in each of the next two years.

Op-ed submit bug

Over the past 40 years, the governor’s seat was held by a Democrat for 20 years and by a Republican for 20 years. The last reasonable/competent governor was (Democrat) Ella Grasso. Connecticut’s problems have occurred under both Republican and Democratic governors. However the one constant has been an incompetent Democratic legislative body for 38 of the last 40 years.

Because of all of this, we are losing seniors who cannot afford to live here and young people who also cannot afford to live here.

The only way we can attract new businesses or even retain existing ones is with huge uneconomical payments. As an example of absolute, pure stupidity, we have agreed to give  Bridgewater Hedge Fund $106 million to move their offices from one location in Connecticut to another location in Connecticut. Is it a wonder that they wanted to move to Stamford where the present governor is from?

To put things in perspective, the CEO of Bridgewater makes much more than $106 million a year. This is absolutely criminal.

I am a very, very disgusted senior resident who will be leaving in the near future.
