Columbus statue removed05

Norman Momowetu Clement, of New Haven, a Native American member of the Penobscot tribe, raises his fists as a statue of Christopher Columbus is removed in Wooster Square Park in New Haven, June 24, 2020. The city removed the statue in recognition of its representation of colonialism that many find offensive in light of heightened tension over racial injustices. The statue was erected in 1892 in the heart of the Italian American community in New Haven. It will be moved to the Knights of Columbus who will determine its future.
