Election history: Geragosian was elected in 1994, succeeding Democrat Raymond M. Joyce in this solidly Democratic district. In 2008, he was cross-endorsed by the Working Families Party.

Public financing: Geragosian qualified for $25,000 in public financing for his campaign. He returned $11,007 to the state.
Background: Geragosian is the senior member of New Britain’s legislative delegation, whose members are drawn from a strong progressive wing of the city’s Democratic Party. He is an advocate of universal health care who sees the state’s insurers as primarily adding cost to the health system.
He was the unexpected choice of his close friend and ally, House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan, to become co-chairman of the Appropriations Committee in 2009.
