Privacy Statement

This statement discloses the privacy practices for, as well as for any  mobile-optimized versions of the website or digital applications that may be linked to the website from time to time  (collectively the “Site”), which is a project of the Connecticut News Project, Inc. (“CNP”). CNP is the owner of this website. This privacy policy is incorporated in our Terms of Use which can be found on the Site.

1.  Information Collection and Use
CNP collects information from our users at several different points on the Site.

CNP gathers “personal” identifying information (which may include, but is not limited to: name, postal address, email address, screen name, password, birth date, daytime telephone number, facsimile number, method of payment, donation history, and, if applicable, credit card number). CNP may request additional information necessary to establish and maintain customer’s account, when you choose to register with, purchase from, access designated subscriber services and/or restricted areas within the CNP website or donate to CNP.  Again, all of this information is kept in strict confidence and is accessible only by the company that hosts the Site (currently The Walker Group, although this may change from time to time without notice) and stores the information on its server, and authorized Site administrators of CNP.  Lastly, CNP collects user-specific information such as pages visited, past user activity, website preferences, browser type (Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.) and volunteered information, such as survey responses.  This information is collected through the use of cookies. CNP will not sell, share, or rent the information collected on this website to others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement.

2.  Content
CNP may license the use of Content you have submitted to the Site to other organizations for noncommercial purposes or other uses which further CNP’s mission.  Our Site visitors are advised and cautioned that whenever they voluntarily disclose personal information on the Site, that information can be collected and used by anyone reading the Site.

2a. Chat Rooms, Blogs, Forums and Bulletin Boards.
If customer participates in a CNP blog, chat room, discussion forum, or posts messages to a CNP blog, bulletin board, social network or similar interactive online media, the user should be aware that the information disclosed and shared will be broadly available to other persons, both inside of and/or outside CNP, who have access to that chat room, forum, bulletin board, social network or other media, or similar media. Some individual CNP chat rooms, forums, bulletin boards, social networks, or similar media have additional rules, privacy policies and conditions regarding participation. Also, participant’s expressed opinion is his or her own and should not be considered as reflecting the opinion of CNP.

3.  Web Statistics
We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the Site, solve technical problems, track user movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use for reporting and sponsorship purposes. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

4.  Sharing
We may share aggregated demographic information with our partners, sponsors, and donors.  This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.  We may also, from time to time, share information collected through our subscription forms and our order forms with certain affiliate or service provider organizations, such as Authorize.Net.  We do not collect credit card information on the Site, and we do not share credit card information that may be provided to us except as needed to process the specific transaction requested.

This website contains links to other websites. Please be aware that CNP does not claim any responsibility for the privacy practices of such other websites.  We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our Site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information.  This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by the Site.

6.  Authorize.Net
All online payments are processed by Authorize.Net.  CNP is not responsible for processing orders managed by Authorize.Net.  Authorize.Net is an organization outside of CNP and there is no association between the two entities except for Authorize.Net’s processing of CNP electronic transactions.  Please visit the Authorize.Net website to obtain their privacy statement.

7.  Security
The Site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control; however, you use the Site at your own risk as set forth in the Terms of Use.

7a. No Liability for Acts of Third Parties.
CNP will exercise all reasonable efforts to safeguard the confidentiality of customer personal information. However, transmissions protected by industry standard security technology and implemented by human beings cannot be made absolutely secure. Consequently, CNP shall not be liable for unauthorized disclosure of personal information due to no fault of CNP including, but not limited to, errors in transmission and unauthorized acts of CNP staff and/or third parties.

8.  Children
CNP encourages parents and guardians to be familiar with the websites visited by their children. In general, the Site will not contain materials that are reasonably considered unsuitable for children.

9. Exceptions

We may — and you authorize us to — disclose data including “personal” identifying information in order to comply with applicable laws, regulations, or legal or regulatory process, or comply with subpoenas or warrants served on us, or in connection with a legal investigation; or if we have reason to believe that someone may be causing injury to someone or interfering with our rights or the rights of our users, or the general public, or using our services in violation of a legal or personal right, including our Terms of Use. Further, in the event of a sale, merger, transfer, exchange, or other disposition  of all or a portion of the business conducted by the CNP to which this policy applies, the successor company will possess the information, including “personal” identifying  information collected by us and will assume the rights and obligations regarding such information as described in this privacy statement..

10.  Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on the Site so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. A notice of such change will be posted on the CNP website home page for thirty (30) days prior to the implementation of such change. There are two boxes at the end of CNP’s notice of change (1) an “I accept” box, and (2) an “I do not accept” box. If you do not mark the “I do not accept” box customer will be deemed to have accepted CNP’s privacy policy updates. As noted in the Terms of Service, if asked to provide your email address during your use of the Site, take care to provide an accurate, complete email address.  Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in a different manner.
