Federal lawmakers and advocates in Connecticut are calling for action after a new study’s results indicate that the official death count of 64 in Puerto Rico “is a substantial underestimate of the true burden of mortality after Hurricane Maria.”The study’s death count: 4,645.
U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3rd District, announced her support Thursday for the Iran nuclear pact, joining most of Connecticut’s delegation in backing the deal. Sen. Richard Blumenthal and 5th District Rep. Elizabeth Esty both remained undecided as of Thursday afternoon.
A $365 million project is underway to upgrade Connecticut’s 62-mile rail corridor and enable Amtrak to run 16 of trains along the New Haven-to-Hartford-to-Springfield track each day, up from the current six. That project—which includes adding tracks and fixing bridges and culverts — is on track to be completed some time in late 2016.
