The Connecticut Mirror is starting 2026 with three new staff members — one reporter and two business team members.
Education reporter: Theo Peck-Suzuki
Theo Peck-Suzuki has been named CT Mirror’s next K-12 education reporter.
In his role, he will cover the K-12 achievement gap, education funding, curriculum, mental health, school safety and inequity, among other topics.
Peck-Suzuki spent three years covering housing, poverty and education as a Report for America fellow at WOUB Public Media, an NPR affiliate based in Athens, Ohio.
There, he earned several awards, including first place for Best News Story (Digital) from the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists and first place for Environment (Audio) from the All-Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards, Press Club of Cleveland.
“Theo’s experience in Ohio covering education and adjacent policy issues will serve him well as he tackles the statewide education beat in Connecticut. He has a strong understanding of educational disparities and how they impact not just individual students, but entire communities,” said Executive Editor Elizabeth Hamilton. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the newsroom team.”
Peck-Suzuki served for two years in an AmeriCorps program at Rural Action, a community development organization based near his hometown in southeast Ohio, before returning to school to study journalism at Ohio University.
He also holds a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology from Brown University and a master of arts degree in social sciences/anthropology from the University of Chicago.
Director of leadership giving: Susan Devany
Susan Devany has been named CT Mirror’s next director of leadership giving, responsible for securing financial resources and building relationships with CT Mirror’s individual donors.
Devany is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has 15 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and is a professional leader in development, grant writing and leadership giving.
“Susan is bringing a wealth of experience with individual fundraising,” said Chief Growth Officer Clare Dignan. “She’s exactly what CT Mirror needs to build sustainability as the newsroom continues to grow.”
Devany holds a master’s degree in business management & organizational leadership from Albertus Magnus College, a bachelor’s degree in marketing & visual arts from Syracuse University, and a certification in Nonprofit Financial Stewardship from the Harvard Kennedy Business School.
Manager of membership: Kalleen Rose Ozanic
Kalleen Rose Ozanic has been named CT Mirror’s next manager of membership.
In her role, she will find innovative ways to connect the work of CT Mirror reporters to the publication’s members and beyond.
Ozanic was previously a local reporter for Hearst Connecticut Media Group, where she covered Norwalk city government and a range of other topics. While there, she was a five-time Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists award recipient.
“Kalleen’s background as a local reporter is special to have in a business team role, and I know our members will connect with how deeply she cares about local journalism,” Dignan said.
Originally from New Jersey, Ozanic holds bachelor of arts and master of science degrees in journalism from Quinnipiac University.
Peck-Suzuki, Devaney and Ozanic all started at CT Mirror on Jan. 5.
