Voters in Connecticut, like the rest of the country, sent a loud message Tuesday that something had to change.

That sentiment trickled down to General Assembly races, resulting in the Connecticut GOP’s worst performance in the state House since 1974 and the worst ever in the state Senate.

Lamont also rode the blue wave, managing to increase his margin over Republicans by about 5 percentage points compared to 2022, with around 60% of the overall vote this year.

But it was a different story with General Assembly races, where Democrats picked up substantial portions of the vote in nearly every town.

Across all state Senate races, Democrats performed 11 percentage points better than in 2024, leaving Republicans with only three state senators, all in west-central Connecticut.

Fairfield saw the largest shift, with Rob Blanchard increasing the town’s Democratic share by 35 percentage points, flipping Tony Hwang’s former district from red to blue. Eastern Connecticut saw staunch increases in Democratic support, and Woodstock, Newtown, New Hartford, Groton and Easton saw their Democratic margin increase by more than 25 percentage points since 2024.

Democrat support in the state House of Representatives increased by a thunderous 10-percentage-point margin. Stonington swung by 30 points, flipping the 43rd district, with North Stonington and Coventry also raising their margin by 25 percentage points.
