Civil commitment is not one of the powers of the federal government and civil commitment of individuals with mental illness is not the policy of the state.

The current federal administration is testing the limits of executive authority with orders that violate the most basic individual rights despite Connecticut’s own strong guarantees to equal protection and due process.

I am alarmed and saddened by recent threats to our civil rights, but I believe Connecticut can resist this assault and protect our residents.
