Iris Sanchez, a native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, was a five-term member of New Britain’s Common Council at the time of her special election to the 25th House District seat in January 2026. She succeeded Bobby Sanchez, a Democrat who resigned the House seat after winning the open race for New Britain mayor in November.
