In the crowded contest to represent Connecticut’s 5th congressional district, Elizabeth Esty got a little boost today that could help fuel her fundraising efforts. EMILY’s List, the fundraising group that recruits and supports Democratic pro-choice female candidates, put Esty “On the List,” a tally of promising candidates for the 2012 cycle.
It’s short of an official endorsement, but that’s not likely to matter much to EMILY’s List donors, who look to the group to guide their campaign donations. In the 2009-2010 cycle, EMILY’s List raised more than $38.5 million to support women candidates.
Esty faces a long list of certain and likely rivals, including Democrat Dan Roberti, in the campaign to succeed Rep. Chris Murphy, who is running for the Senate.
