Men between 18 and 25 in Connecticut have been registered with the selective service when applying for a driver’s license since at least 2013.
Applications for obtaining or renewing a license state that submitting the form serves as consent for registration with the Selective Service System, according to section 14-36l of Connecticut’s General Statutes.
If a larger military is needed for a national emergency, Congress would have to approve reinstatement of the draft. Those inducted would come from the Selective Service System pool. The last time a draft was in effect was in the early 1970s during the Vietnam War.
In a draft, there would be a lottery. Men who turn 20 in the year of the draft would get called first. Men between 21 and 25 would be next, followed by 19-year-olds and then individuals more than six months past their 18th birthday.
