Christopher O’Connor, chief executive of Yale New Haven Health System, is stepping down from his role, according to an announcement Monday. 

The health system’s current president, Pamela Sutton-Wallace, has been appointed acting CEO, effective immediately. The board of trustees will conduct a national search to replace O’Connor over the next several months.

The health system’s announcement did not provide details on O’Connor’s next move. Two spokespeople for Yale New Haven did not respond to requests for comment. O’Connor also could not be reached. 

An internal email went out to the organization’s staff on Monday to announce the departure, according to a report in the Hartford Business Journal.

O’Connor has worked at YNHH for 14 years and served as CEO since 2022. O’Connor helped lead and oversee the health system’s acquisition of St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Milford Hospital and Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island.

Before serving as CEO, he held roles as executive vice president, chief operating officer and president. Prior to O’Connor, Marna Borgstrom served as the organization’s CEO for 17 years. 

Yale New Haven Health System is one of Connecticut’s largest health systems, with four hospitals in the state, over 6,600 affiliated physicians and more than $6 billion in net patient revenue.
