Four interns and fellows are working in a variety of newsroom roles at The Connecticut Mirror this summer.
Reporting Intern Tran Chau and Data Reporting Intern Calista Oetama are contributing to CT Mirror’s state politics and public policy coverage. Audience Engagement Intern Kat Ramkumar is working on social media and newsletters, and Visuals Fellow Julia Levine is contributing photojournalism.
“I am so excited to welcome this year’s summer interns to The Connecticut Mirror,” said Investigative Reporter Ginny Monk, CT Mirror’s internship coordinator. “We have a group of students from across the country who have already shown that they can do great work, and I’m looking forward to spending the next few weeks working with them.”

Calista Oetama
Calista is a data reporting intern at CT Mirror. She is a rising senior at Yale University majoring in History and English. Last year, Calista reported for the Sacramento Bee’s metro desk, covering topics such as protests, environmental regulations and water politics. She previously served as co-editor-in-chief of The New Journal, a long-form journalism magazine about Yale and New Haven.
Julia Levine
Julia is a visuals fellow with CT Mirror. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in linguistics and international studies and graduated with a master’s degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Julia grew up in Maryland, and prior to joining CT Mirror, she was a photojournalist and reporter in Cambridge, Mass., and the editor-in-chief of Dartmouth’s yearbook, The Aegis.
Kat Ramkumar
Kat Ramkumar is an audience engagement intern with CT Mirror. She graduated from the University of Missouri in May with a degree in journalism. Kat most recently covered Missouri state government and higher education for The Columbia Missourian and KBIA. She previously interned with Community Impact, Under the Radar Music Magazine, Kansas City Beacon, Ms. Magazine and Mountain State Spotlight. Kat also worked as a student researcher with the Reynolds Journalism Institute.
Tran Chau
Tran is a reporting intern at CT Mirror. She lives in New York City and is a rising senior at Wesleyan University, majoring in East Asian Studies. As a Mellon Mays Scholar, she has conducted research on Vietnam, focusing on themes of identity, patriotism and collective expression. After taking a course in data journalism, she developed a strong interest in journalism and its ability to inform and directly impact the public. She is passionate about connecting with people and contributing to the community through meaningful storytelling.
