I wrote here recently that there was not enough evidence to impeach President Trump. That the effort to do so was driven by vindictiveness and hatred of everything about him. Since I wrote that, those that disagreed with me based their arguments exclusively on the last four years, what a jerk he has been, and all the bad things he has said and done, etc.

Evidence not clear that Trump incited Capitol destruction
Defending President Donald Trump is not popular and I have no interest in writing this other than adherence to truth. Recognizing the truth (if we can find it, which is not always possible of course) should make us be able to come together around that and move on with a common understanding.
Speak the truth about project labor agreements
A commentary Dec. 31 in the CT Mirror by Keith Brothers, the Business Manager of the CT Laborers District Council and President of the Norwich-New London Building Trades Council, contained some valid points, but its main point that project labor agreements do not cost more money is widely known to be false.
Partisanship prevents good public policy
In elected politics, objectives are clear and it is easy to understand the motivations behind why a party or candidate chooses a certain path: that which they think they will benefit their standing and that of the party to the public. Anyone who has read the press releases of elected officials knows what I mean. Politics is generally not about making good policy. It’s about what is hoped that you, their constituent or future constituent, will think of the official/party by their action on a policy.
An objective take on Amy Coney Barrett
Leaving out the controversy surrounding former President Obama, Merrick Garland and the Mitch McConnell Senate Republican stance in that particular case, and focusing solely on Amy Coney Barrett, I have found her to be one of the most impressive people I have come across – at least based on the information so far.
The ignorance of calling the electoral college racist
In his Aug. 23 Hartford Courant op-ed, Ed Marcus, the former Connecticut Democratic Party Chairman, attempts to convince us that the Electoral College is “a last vestige of racism.” He bases this claim on the 3/5th count given to slaves to determine state representation in half of the new federal legislature (the House of Representatives) when the Constitution was ratified.
Guess what? Politicians should not have to release tax or medical records
There is no law requiring that politicians, especially those aspiring to or holding the office of U.S. president, be required to submit their tax records or their medical information. Nor should there be.
A trillion here, a trillion there…
Recently Congress and the President took bipartisan action and agreed on a $2.2 trillion stimulus package for the U.S. to address the effects of COVID-19. The bill passed virtually unanimously although many griped before voting, with even one member referring to it as “a big crap sandwich” due to the perceived non-Coronavirus related funding inclusions.
Finally time to shed your party membership?
It has finally come to this: our two major parties politicizing a potential health epidemic in America.
