Hope in the face of trauma can feel like too much to ask. But when thoughts and prayers are not enough, hope and action are prime levers for change.
We have often been told to let the system do its job and justice will prevail. We now know that has never been the case for people who look like me. But, in so many ways, it’s time for that to change. The recent non-action on Breonna Taylor and a summer of clear and blatant disregard for Black life has made one thing clear: racial equality requires a radical shift in power.
Black and brown communities have been in crisis for a long time. So it would stand to reason that even in a moment when we are experiencing the largest pandemic in a century, our community is having to break quarantine to protect their rights and prove the sanctity of their lives.
