Danny Lenz (right) reacts to finding a doughnut in a bag that his parents, Rick and Fay Lenz, (left) brought him during a visit to his apartment in Avon. Danny Lenz, 39, has intellectual disabilities and has lived independently with a roommate here for 13 years. Due to social distancing requirements because of the COVID-19 outbreak the senior Lenzes visit about twice a week bearing Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, a doughnut and a bag with magazines and snacks and place them near his door before backing away as he comes out to greet them. The Lenzes chat with their son for a few minutes before heading home. Danny used to visit his parents home every other weekend, but was ordered to shelter in place the second week of March. The twice-weekly visits and phone calls are the only connection they have as long as the virus is a danger.
