One of the first politicians affected by the waning hopes for ratification of the state employees’ concession deal is one of labor’s biggest friends, House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan, D-Meriden.

Donovan, a former labor and community organizer, is postponing a formal announcement of his candidacy for the open seat in the 5th Congressional District, which originally was planned for Thursday.

“Given what’s going on, Chris feels that his place is at the Capitol right now, and we’ll have a formal launch for the campaign sometime soon,” said Gabe Rosenberg, a spokesman for the campaign.
