Chris Shays made official what has been rumored and already reported for months: he will officially run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Joseph Lieberman.
A Greenwich paper reported that Shays, the former GOP congressman from Connecticut’s 4th District, and his wife Betsi are back on the voter rolls in Bridgeport, where they bought a $115,000 condo last year.
“Betsi and I are excited to be back in Connecticut,” Shays told the paper. “These are all the steps that I am taking so that I can have the opportunity to run for Senate. I hope to be on the ballot next November.”
The Mirror had previously reported that Shays intended to make his intensions official before the end of this month.
Within minutes of Shays’ remarks, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee released a statement touting his current address-in suburban Washington.
