Without fanfare, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed into law today a bill repealing the death penalty for future crimes.

Malloy had made clear that he had no desire for a celebratory public bill signing, given that some relatives of murder victims were so vehemently opposed to repeal. The signing was witnessed by advocates of repeal, his staff said.
