U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman is doing his final diner tour today as the end of his fourth and final term in the Senate approaches.
He was scheduled to stop at White’s Diner in Bridgeport, the Athenian Diner in New Haven, and Norm’s Diner in Groton this morning, then drop by Shady Glen in Manchester at lunch and hit Dottie’s 2 Diner in Waterbury on the way back home to Stamford.
Lieberman loved diner stops as a way to campaign and stay in touch, though they were press events that often made for awkward press moments. During campaigns, nothing was an unnatural as a senator sliding into your booth for small talk, while a gaggle of reporters leaned in to hear someone opine about the quality of a western omelet.
