Washington – President Obama on Monday will honor the NCAA Champion UConn Huskies men’s and women’s basketball teams, the White House announced Friday.

The White House said the invitation to the teams “will also continue the tradition begun by President Obama of honoring sports teams for their efforts to give back to their communities.”

But winning sports teams have been invited to the White House for years.

This is the second time Obama honors the men’s Huskies basketball team.

When the men’s team traveled to the White House after their 2011 championship,Obama called out several individual players, including Shabazz Napier “who sang and danced and talked his way through a incredible freshman season.”

Obama has honored the UConn women’s basketball team four times.
