Navy praises CT-Sikorsky deal as it haggles over helicopter’s cost

WASHINGTON — The Navy lauded Connecticut’s effort to help Lockheed Martin cut the cost of the CH53K King Stallion, a new heavy-lift helicopter for the Marines, but the Navy and the company still are negotiating over the contract for the huge new helicopter.

WASHINGTON — Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus said submarines have become more important to the national defense and the Navy has less excess capacity than the other services, but he also said all Navy facilities would be on the table, even sub bases, if there were a new base-closing round.

Key CT lawmakers open to making women sign up for the draft

WASHINGTON — Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Joe Courtney, both members of armed services committees in Congress, say they are open to requiring young women to sign up for the draft. The issue has come under debate after two senior military officials said they supported extending the draft to women.

Sikorsky signs contract for presidential ‘copters

Washington – It was expected but now it’s official. Sikorsky signed a contract with the Marines Wednesday to build the next Marine One, a huge transport helicopter used by the White House.
