Democrat Elizabeth Esty’s first general-election commercial in the 5th Congressional District is a pledge to protect Medicare and Social Security that quickly pivots to an attack on her Republican opponent, Andrew Roraback.

Esty labels Roraback, a state senator, as a Hartford politician. The commercial identifies Esty as a former town council member in Cheshire, never mentioning she also served a term in the state House of Representatives.

Roraback released a commercial last week pledging to protect Medicare.
