Recently the governor proposed to eliminate Connecticut’s participation in the funeral Honor Guard Detail for members of our military.
It is hard to imagine the negative impact it delivers to a family who has just lost a member. It creates a cold feeling from a state that should without question honor one’s service to the country.
I view it as a moral issue that takes away dignity and honor from the family. It is embarrassing to even have budget cuts like this proposed to the public and, of course, our military families.
I am a member of an Honors Wake Detail for the Marine Corps League and I know first hand the appreciation of the families when we honor their loved ones. Military lives are the foundation of what this nation stands for and this and proposals like this should never be a line item in a budget.
