Nearly a third of initial Access Health applicants are under 35, CEO says

Nearly a third of the initial applicants to Access Health CT, the state’s new health insurance marketplace, are under 35, CEO Kevin Counihan said Tuesday. And of all the applicants, most have selected the so-called silver or gold plans, which have higher premiums and cover a larger share of medical costs than the lower-cost bronze plan options.

Access Health: 753 applications processed in three days

Access Health CT, the state’s health insurance exchange, has processed 753 applications for coverage since opening Tuesday, including 153 on Thursday. On its third day in operation, the exchange reported receiving 11,058 website visitors and 1,033 calls as of 4 p.m. Since Tuesday morning, Access Health counted 82,939 website visitors and 5,094 phone calls.

Access Health’s day 2 stats: 99 processed applications, 1,328 calls

On its second day of accepting enrollment, Access Health CT, the state’s new health insurance marketplace, received 1,328 calls, 45,000 website visitors, and processed 99 applications. Wednesday’s activity brings to 373 the number of applications processed for coverage through Access Health, which connects people to both private insurance and Medicaid.
