Connecticut transportation budget’s ends don’t justify the means

As someone who has battled two decades for more spending on transportation, you’d think I would be happy with the state’s new biennial budget. But when you drill down into the details, there’s reason for concern. Gov. Dannel Malloy promised a down-payment on his $100 billion transportation dreams. And he did get one-half of one percent of the state sales tax repurposed for that… but it only pays down the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s enormous debt service.

Future of Connecticut Rails: Last call for tickets for Tuesday’s Half Full event

The final event in The Mirror’s four-part Policy Pairings Series will take place Tuesday at Half Full Brewery in Stamford and feature a panel discussion on “The Future of Connecticut Rails.” Panelists will be Connecticut Transportation Commissioner James Redeker; Amanda Kennedy, the Connecticut director of the Regional Plan Association; and Jim Cameron, former chair of The CT Metro-North Rail Commuter Council. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.

CT Business Climate 2018: Last call for tickets for Tuesday’s Hooker Brewing event

As part of The Mirror’s four-part Policy Pairings Series, Tuesday’s event at Hooker Brewing Company in Bloomfield will feature the panel discussion, “CT Business Climate: 2018,” with Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, CBIA CEO Joseph Brennan and MetroHartford Alliance CEO Oz Griebel. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. The discussion will focus on the long-term future of Connecticut business, moderated by Mirror Capitol Bureau Chief Mark Pazniokas.
