DeLauro ‘guest’ at State of the Union turns activist

Washington – Most guests invited by members of Congress or the White House to attend the State of the Union speech are there to be quietly symbolic, but not John W. Barto Jr., the former president of Ansonia Metals. Barto, the guest of Rep. Rosa DeLauro , D-3rd District, spent the day lobbying against the Tran-Pacific Partnership, a proposed trade agreement among 12 Pacific Rim countries.

DeLauro breaks with Obama, big CT firms on Pacific trade deal

WASHINGTON – Rep. Rosa DeLauro is on a collision course with President Obama and some of Connecticut’s largest companies over a proposed trade deal with 12 countries on the Pacific Rim that span from Chile to Japan. DeLauro, D-3rd District, has become a leading opponent of the president’s plans for the Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP.

New Haven—Hartford—Springfield rail upgrade on track

A $365 million project is underway to upgrade Connecticut’s 62-mile rail corridor and enable Amtrak to run 16 of trains along the New Haven-to-Hartford-to-Springfield track each day, up from the current six. That project—which includes adding tracks and fixing bridges and culverts — is on track to be completed some time in late 2016.
