Blumenthal presses Barr on Trump investigation

WASHINGTON – Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Tuesday pressed William Barr,  President Donald Trump’s choice to head the Justice Department, on whether he would make all of special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report public.  As he had when asked similar questions by other Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation hearing for Attorney General,  Barr deflected the question during a tense exchange.

Blumenthal, other Dems, demand Trump withdraw Kavanaugh’s nomination

WASHINGTON – Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Wednesday joined his Democratic colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee in demanding President Donald Trump direct the FBI to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh or withdraw the nomination. The president, who has escalated his defense of the nominee, is not likely to comply.

Blumenthal releases ‘confidential’ emails, grills Kavanaugh on ACA, Mueller probe

WASHINGTON – Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Thursday joined frustrated Democratic colleagues in releasing documents once designated as “committee confidential” as a way of exposing what they say are Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s true positions on abortion, affirmative action and other issues. Blumenthal also tried again to pin down Kavanaugh with questions about the Affordable Care Act, Robert Mueller’s investigation and President Donald Trump’s insults of sitting judges.

Richard Blumenthal will be at the center of what is expected to be a historic partisan firefight this week over the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Blumenthal plans to use his skills as a former litigator and what he knows as a former Supreme Court law clerk to persuade colleagues Kavanaugh is out of the mainstream when it comes to legal thought and would set the high court on a rightward course for decades.
