Blumenthal, Murphy win on net neutrality vote, but House approval unlikely

WASHINGTON — The Senate on Wednesday rejected the Trump administration’s plan to overturn so-called net neutrality rules, which mandate that internet providers give consumers access to content on an equal basis, without favoring some sources or blocking others. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy voted with all other Democrats — and a few Republicans — for the net neutrality resolution.

Lauretti to petition, potentially forcing 6-way GOP primary

Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti, a gubernatorial candidate who fell short of qualifying for a primary at the Republican convention over the weekend, said Sunday he will begin a petition drive Monday to get on what could be a very crowded GOP ballot in August. Mike Handler posted a message on Facebook saying he would end his petition drive, leaving the GOP with six contenders.

Gray narrowly tops Linares for treasurer, Miller gets GOP nod for comptroller

MASHANTUCKET — The Republican State Convention endorsed retired investment executive Thad Gray of Salisbury for state treasurer over Sen. Art Linares of Westbrook by a razor-thin 14 votes. It also endorsed Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller for comptroller over Litchfield businessman Mark Greenberg, though that nomination also might be settled at a primary.

Hatfield endorsed for AG, but Shaban may primary

MASHANTUCKET — Susan Hatfield, a state prosecutor from eastern Connecticut, won the Republican State Convention endorsement for attorney general Friday, but former state Rep. John Shaban of Redding probably will contest the nomination in a primary. Republicans also unanimously nominated Susan Chapman of New Fairfield to run for secretary of the state.

Manny Santos wins in 5th CD, but Ruby O’Neill to primary

MASHANTUCKET — Manny Santos, the former mayor of Meriden, won the Republican endorsement for the open seat in the 5th Congressional District on a second ballot Friday, but he faces a primary from at least one challenger, Ruby O’Neill, a founder of the National Latino Republican Coalition. It was the only district with a contest for the GOP nomination.
