Blumenthal sues to block Whitaker serving as U.S. Attorney General

WASHINGTON – Sen. Richard Blumenthal joined two other Senate Democrats on Monday in suing to block Matthew Whitaker from serving as President Donald Trump’s acting attorney general. The lawsuit argues that the Constitution’s Appointments Clause requires that the Senate confirm high-level federal government officials, including the Attorney General, before they exercise the duties of the office.

Kavanaugh hearing engulfed in high-stakes drama and emotion

WASHINGTON – Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh angrily lashed out at Democrats who oppose his candidacy and said a rash of accusations of sexual misbehavior from women is a  “calculated and orchestrated political hit.” But it was his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, who first held the nation’s attention when she said she was afraid Kavanaugh “was going to rape me” at a high school party decades ago.

Blumenthal, other Dems, demand Trump withdraw Kavanaugh’s nomination

WASHINGTON – Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Wednesday joined his Democratic colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee in demanding President Donald Trump direct the FBI to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh or withdraw the nomination. The president, who has escalated his defense of the nominee, is not likely to comply.

Blumenthal, other Dems, reject scheduling of Friday vote on Kavanaugh

WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans have scheduled a vote on Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh for Friday morning, just one day after he and sexual assault accuser Christine Blasey Ford are due to testify before the lawmakers. The scheduling of the vote provoked Democrats on the panel, including Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., to accuse Republicans of a rush to judgment and of pressing for Kavanaugh’s confirmation with little regard to the allegations against him.

Yale Law professors call for ‘neutral’ probe of Kavanaugh sexual assault accusation

WASHINGTON – As the partisan tussle over the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court continued Friday, Yale Law School faculty weighed in with a letter asking that the FBI or another “neutral factfinder” investigate an accusation that the nominee sexually assaulted another teen at a high school party decades ago.

CT sexual assault victims back Kavanaugh accuser

Victims of sexual assault in Connecticut on Thursday joined others across the country in backing Christine Blasey Ford, a college professor who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault decades ago when both were attending a teenage party. Meanwhile, Ford’s lawyers began negotiations with Senate Republicans regarding the conditions on her testimony.

Blumenthal releases ‘confidential’ emails, grills Kavanaugh on ACA, Mueller probe

WASHINGTON – Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Thursday joined frustrated Democratic colleagues in releasing documents once designated as “committee confidential” as a way of exposing what they say are Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s true positions on abortion, affirmative action and other issues. Blumenthal also tried again to pin down Kavanaugh with questions about the Affordable Care Act, Robert Mueller’s investigation and President Donald Trump’s insults of sitting judges.
