Proposed cut in dental reimbursement could jeopardize children’s care

Gov. Dannel Malloy’s proposed budget charges the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) with achieving $90 million in savings through a reduction in provider rates. A conservative estimate of the impact of reducing dental fees by 5.6 percent indicates that 24,000 fewer HUSKY-insured young people under 21 years of age would have access to a dental visit in each of the next two fiscal years.

Malloy’s big ask: Find $100 billion for transportation

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy named a group Tuesday to identify means to pay for a 30-year, $100 billion effort to modernize and maintain Connecticut’s transportation infrastructure. He gave them a late summer deadline, meaning he is unlikely to place a funding plan before the legislature until a special session this fall or the 2016 regular session.

Larger deficit looms as Malloy warns of more emergency cuts

Nonpartisan fiscal analysts again asserted Wednesday that the current state budget deficit is worse than Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s administration has reported — and that’s despite a recent administration estimate that more than doubled the shortfall. And while the Office of Fiscal Analysis was issuing its $191 million deficit forecast, Malloy’s budget chief directed all agencies Wednesday to brace for a third round of emergency cuts and to ensure spending is “significantly curtailed” between now and the fiscal year’s close on June 30.
