FBI report splits Congress along party lines; Blumenthal calls it a ‘cover up’

WASHINGTON – The finished FBI investigation of sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has deepened the divisiveness in Congress. Sen. Richard Blumenthal called the probe “a whitewash” and Sen. Chris Murphy has determined Kavanaugh “is the most dangerous nominee to the Supreme Court in a lifetime.” Meanwhile Republican senators say the FBI’s probe fails to corroborate any of the sexual assault allegations against the judge.

Attorneys for Kavanaugh’s Yale accuser worry FBI ‘is not conducting a serious investigation.’

Washington – A lawyer for former Connecticut resident Deborah Ramirez, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of exposing himself to her in a Yale dorm room, said the FBI conducted a “detailed and productive interview” Sunday of his client. But in a series of tweets on Tuesday, the attorney said he is concerned “that the FBI is not conducting — or not being permitted to conduct – a serious investigation.”

Murphy helps raise campaign cash to defeat NRA-backed Republicans

WASHINGTON – Sen. Chris Murphy will join other gun control advocates and coalition of progressive groups in a one-day fundraising effort for eight Democrats hoping to defeat Republican incumbents with “A” ratings from the National Rifle Association in November’s mid-term elections. It’s an effort show the gun control lobby has political clout, and help flip the U.S. House — and maybe also the Senate — to Democratic control.

Kavanaugh hearing engulfed in high-stakes drama and emotion

WASHINGTON – Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh angrily lashed out at Democrats who oppose his candidacy and said a rash of accusations of sexual misbehavior from women is a  “calculated and orchestrated political hit.” But it was his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, who first held the nation’s attention when she said she was afraid Kavanaugh “was going to rape me” at a high school party decades ago.

Blumenthal, other Dems, demand Trump withdraw Kavanaugh’s nomination

WASHINGTON – Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Wednesday joined his Democratic colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee in demanding President Donald Trump direct the FBI to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh or withdraw the nomination. The president, who has escalated his defense of the nominee, is not likely to comply.

Blumenthal, other Dems, reject scheduling of Friday vote on Kavanaugh

WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans have scheduled a vote on Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh for Friday morning, just one day after he and sexual assault accuser Christine Blasey Ford are due to testify before the lawmakers. The scheduling of the vote provoked Democrats on the panel, including Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., to accuse Republicans of a rush to judgment and of pressing for Kavanaugh’s confirmation with little regard to the allegations against him.
