Medicare Savings Program cuts delayed by two months

Lowered eligibility limits for the Medicare Savings Program, which uses Medicaid money to help low-income residents pay medical costs Medicare doesn’t cover, were supposed to go into effect on Jan. 1, but the Department of Social Services said Wednesday it will slow down implementation of the changes in response to concerns raised by the enrollees, advocates and legislators.

Shut out of budget talks, Malloy takes a stroll — to visit the press

Shut out of budget negotiations for a week, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy stretched his legs Thursday. Trailed by staff and security, Malloy strode from his 2nd-floor office to a 4th-floor landing outside the press room at the other end of the State Capitol. It was his second visit in as many days, using the press to remind public and politicians of his parameters for a budget deal.

CT ‘dreamers’ march in D.C. as Trump punts DACA to Congress

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Tuesday ended a program that protected thousands of immigrant youth in Connecticut from deportation, placing the fate of those undocumented immigrants, brought to the United States as children, in the hands of a fractious Congress. Immigrant youths from Connecticut joined those from other states in converging on Washington in protest.

CT questions Sessions over ‘sanctuary city’ policing grant ban

Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen on Tuesday asked U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to clarify new rules requiring that those seeking federal policing money certify they are cooperating with federal immigration authorities. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy also have written Sessions over his policy of cracking down on “sanctuary” cities and states by withholding federal law enforcement funds.
