Sandy Hook families get day in court on claims against gunmaker

Justices of the Connecticut Supreme Court aggressively questioned a gunmaker’s lawyer Tuesday about the marketing of the AR-15 rifle used to kill 26 children and educators at the Sandy Hook School in 2012, giving families of the victims hope the court will revive their liability claims against Remington Arms that were dismissed by a trial judge.

CT lawmakers keep introducing gun control bills, but face uphill climb

WASHINGTON — Rep. Elizabeth Esty, who represents Newtown in Congress, on Thursday was the latest lawmaker to introduce a bill aimed at curbing gun deaths. Although the number of bills in Congress that would tighten regulations on firearms is growing, there’s no indication the political climate on Capitol Hill is becoming more favorable to gun control, even after the Las Vegas massacre.

This time, Newtown bike riders rolling away from Congress

WASHINGTON — With Donald Trump in the White House and a GOP lock on Congress, the 26 bike riders who roll hundreds of miles every year from Newtown to the U.S. Capitol to honor those slain at Sandy Hook Elementary School decided to change course. Instead of riding to Congress, they were riding away from it Thursday and toward where they believe their message has more resonance.

Esty and Cope disagree, if amiably, on gun control and climate change

DANBURY — America’s approach to regulating the sale of guns was the brightest line dividing U.S. Rep. The NRA’s embrace of Tyrant Trump

In case there were any doubts about the NRA’s noble political arguments for expansive gun rights, the gun lobby’s embrace of Donald Trump should sweep them away. The NRA always reminds us that it puts ‘freedom first,’ but in truth, it cares not a whit about our democracy and basic rights; its only concern is to expand the gun market, at any cost. What’s more, in sticking by the disastrous and openly racist Trump campaign, the NRA risks alienating itself and its agenda—perhaps fatally.
